On February 8th, 1915, the residents of Lineboro banded together to organize The Lineboro Volunteer Fire Department.
They started the department with a two-story brick building with one engine bay. Later, in 1948,
the building was remodeled to add a much needed engine bay. And again, in 1970,
an addition was added to the existing building providing two more engine bays and a radio
room.
Meanwhile, the community was dramatically changing. Areas that were once small farms had
become the residential neighborhoods we now serve. The Lineboro Volunteer Fire Department has
been striving to keep pace with this growth by purchasing new apparatus and providing new
services. Today's apparatus has grown in size and now simply does not fit into the 50 year old
engine bays. Room is so limited that the brush truck and special unit are housed in a separate
building to the rear of the property.
In 2000, the Lineboro Volunteer Fire Department determined
an upgrade of the fire station was needed. After extensive research and evaluation by the members,
the Department decided to hire anarchitect to explore the possibilities for the existing
structure. It was concluded that the best course of action was to add three more bays and
remodel the interior of the existing building. The proposed plans have many upgrades: additional
larger apparatus bays, a bunkroom with showers, a day room, a community meeting room, offices,
and a new kitchen.
The budget for the new addition and renovations is $2.125 million dollars and
the cost may even exceed this number with the rising price of steel and lumber. Through
fundraisers and your donations we have already raised $200,000 towards this project. The
Department has secured a low interest loan through the Carroll County Government but we need your
generous contributions to pay back this loan.
